Priya Kapur, the third wife of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, has reportedly approached the Supreme Court seeking access to records related to Sunjay’s earlier divorce from actor Karisma Kapoor. The move comes months after Sunjay Kapur’s death, as the legal fight over his large estate continues to intensify. Sunjay Kapur passed away at the age of 53, on June 12, 2025 in London. The industrialist reportedly suffered a heart attack while he was playing Polo.

According to reports in ANI, Priya Kapur has filed an application before the apex court requesting certified copies of documents from the 2016 divorce proceedings between Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur. These records reportedly include details about financial settlements and child custody arrangements that were finalised at the time. Reports said Priya Kapur wants to study these documents to better understand how Sunjay Kapur’s finances were divided during his previous marriage and what provisions were made for his children. This information, she believes, is relevant to the ongoing inheritance dispute surrounding his estate. A bench headed by Justice AS Chandurkar is expected to examine whether such confidential divorce records can be shared with a third party. The court will decide if Priya Kapur has a legal right to access these documents, considering their sensitive nature.

Meanwhile, Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur’s children, Samaira and Kiaan Kapur, have raised serious objections related to the alleged digital evidence presented in the case. As earlier reported by Hindustan Times, the siblings have questioned the authenticity of electronic records submitted before the Delhi High Court by Priya Kapur. These records, which circulated widely on social media and television debates, reportedly suggest that Priya Kapur’s mobile phone was located in New Delhi on March 21, 2025. This date is crucial because Priya Kapur stated in an affidavit that she was physically present in Gurugram on the same day, when Sunjay Kapur’s disputed will was allegedly executed.

Legal experts say that if the location mismatch is confirmed, it could significantly impact the case. Advocate Swapnil Kothari explained that courts tend to be very cautious when sworn statements conflict with electronic evidence. He added that even one inconsistency can lead to deeper scrutiny of the entire case. The estate at the centre of the dispute is estimated to be worth around Rs 30,000 crore, making the outcome particularly significant.

On the other hand, in another major development, Samaira and Kiaan Kapur have reportedly sought criminal action against Priya Kapur. According to an NDTV report, they have asked the court to invoke Sections 338 and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita, alleging that a fabricated will was created to deny them their rightful inheritance. The siblings have also claimed that neither Sunjay Kapur nor Priya Kapur was in Gurugram on March 21, but were instead in Delhi. They further stated that Karisma Kapoor was in touch with Sunjay Kapur via WhatsApp on that day to discuss Portuguese citizenship for the children.

As the case unfolds, the courts are expected to closely examine both documentary and digital evidence before arriving at any conclusion.
