The Kerala Story 2 Trailer: The cinematic landscape was significantly altered in 2023 by the release of The Kerala Story. Now, producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah is returning with a highly anticipated sequel, The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond, scheduled for release on February 27, 2026. The original The Kerala Story introduced us to the harrowing journey of Shalini Unnikrishnan played by Adah Sharma, a nursing student from Kerala brainwashed into joining extremist ranks. The film became a box-office phenomenon, grossing over £30 million (Rs 300 crore) while sparking a massive national debate.
What’s New In The Kerala Story 2?
The The Kerala Story 2 trailer which was unveiled recently suggests a significant shift in scope. While the first part focused primarily on the state of Kerala, the sequel expands its narrative across India, featuring three new protagonists which includes Surekha Nair played by Ulka Gupta as an IAS aspirant from Kerala, Neha Sant played by Aishwarya Ojha as an Olympic-hopeful javelin thrower from Madhya Pradesh and Divya Paliwal played by Aditi Bhatia as a social media influencer from Rajasthan. While both parts of the The Kerala Story franchise explore themes of 'love jihad' and forced conversions, their tones differ.
The original The Kerala Story was a tragedy of victimhood, focusing on the manipulation and eventual trafficking of young women to war zones like Syria. In contrast, The Kerala Story adopts a more aggressive stance. The sequel’s slogan, "Ab Sahenge Nahi.. Ladenge" indicates a transition from victimhood to active resistance. The trailer shows the leads looking directly into the camera, bruised but defiant, chanting their intent to protect the country's demography.
While the first film was shocking for its graphic depiction of radicalisation, The Kerala Story 2 feels more intense due to its 'Goes Beyond' approach. By including stories from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, the filmmakers aim to show that the issue is nationwide. Directed by National Award winner Kamakhya Narayan Singh, the sequel is one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
