Dipika was already known to the Sagar family because she had worked with them earlier in shows like Vikram Aur Betaal. Still, Ramanand Sagar did not want to give her any special treatment. In an interview with The Times of India, Dipika shared that she had to go through a tough audition process along with around 250 other girls.

Sagar had a clear idea of how Sita should look and behave. He wanted someone who naturally fit the character, without heavy makeup or artificial acting. During the final auditions, Dipika performed simple scenes. The focus was on her walk, her expressions, and how gracefully she carried herself.
