When Sridevi Got Annoyed Because Akshay Kumar Took 36 Takes For A Courtroom Scene: '...Rehearse Yaar'

Sridevi and Akshay Kumar, two of Bollywood's biggest actors, collaborated on a little-known movie. At the time, Sridevi was already a major star while Akshay Kumar was still getting established in the Hindi film industry. Meri Biwi Ka Jawab Nahi, filmed in 1994, took almost ten years to be released. It was a box office failure when it eventually hit theatres in 2004. Meri Biwi Ka Jawab Nahi director Pankaj Parashar discussed the series of regrettable incidents that ended the movie in an interview with Siddharth Kanan. He also recalled the time from the set when Sridevi got annoyed because Akshay Kumar took almost 36 shots to complete a courtroom scene.

The director also disclosed that Akshay Kumar was anxious when collaborating with Sridevi. "He used to panic a lot." The filmmaker recalled, "She came and told me, 'Make him (Akshay Kumar) rehearse yaar. He's already on his 36th take.' That happened because I refused to call it a shot."

"It was a courtroom scene and had a long dialogue. If I split it, that would break an actor's confidence. I told him to do it as long as it becomes ok. Sridevi was sitting right there. When he finally did it, everyone clapped. That gives an actor a sense of confidence," the filmmaker added. The director went on to say that Sridevi was later amazed by Akshay Kumar's talent and saw his potential.
