BLACKPINK’s journey to becoming one of Kpop’s most recognisable girl groups began with their 2016 debut. But their childhood ambitions were not all centred on becoming singers.

In a 2019 interview with SBS Star, the four members discussed what they had wanted to do and what they might have pursued if their singing careers had not worked out.

The answers revealed different creative interests, from Jennie’s early fascination with ballet to Jisoo’s interest in writing. Lisa imagined a career in fashion modelling, while Rosé wanted to teach art. Here is what the members said about their alternative career paths.

Jennie Wanted To Become A Ballerina Or Zookeeper

Jennie’s childhood interest was ballet, and she initially wanted to become a ballerina. As she grew older, however, her interest in music took precedence. She eventually pursued singing and became one of BLACKPINK’s vocalists.

According to a Star Road interview, Jennie also said she would have become a zookeeper if her debut as an idol had not worked out because she loves animals.

In an interview with High Cut, Jennie recalled experimenting with clothes and putting different outfits together from a young age. Singing and dancing with friends were also part of her everyday life.

“Ever since I was a child, I enjoyed styling and making new combinations with clothes,” Jennie said in the interview.

Jisoo Wanted To Write Novels

Jisoo wanted to become a writer when she was younger. During the Star Road interview, she said she would probably write novels, although she did not identify a particular genre she wanted to specialise in.

Jisoo has discussed other childhood possibilities in separate interviews, too. In the Netflix documentary BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky, released in October 2020, she recalled wanting to become a writer or painter. She also mentioned that she was not particularly good at painting.

Lisa’s Childhood Dream Was Fashion Modelling

Lisa’s childhood ambition was to become a professional fashion model. She identified photography as another profession she could have pursued, according to SBS Star’s account.

Lisa has also revealed a different childhood ambition in a separate interview with Rolling Stone. She recalled wanting to become a flight attendant after travelling to Singapore with her family and seeing the cabin crew of Singapore Airlines.

“I saw the beautiful flight attendants on Singapore Airlines, wearing this uniform,” Lisa said, describing the moment that caught her attention.

She recalled being impressed by the uniform and the flight attendant who spoke to her in English. Lisa said she begged her mother to buy her a similar outfit after the trip. She later explained that she did not meet the height requirements for the profession.

Rosé Wanted To Become An Art Teacher

Rosé wanted to become an art teacher when she was a child. In the Star Road interview, she explained her interest in the profession simply: “I like to draw.”

On many occasions, she also revealed her interest in pursuing music as a vocal teacher, balladeer or running a music shop teaching guitar and piano.
