The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) is set to brighten the city this Diwali with the installation of 10,000 new streetlights. Preparations for the project are underway, with the work of installing, repairing, and maintaining the lights to be assigned to a private agency this month.

The corporation has identified dark spots across the city for the new installations. Citizens, Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs), and councillors have long demanded better street lighting, and with this addition, along with the 6,000 lights recently installed, officials hope to resolve the problem of poorly lit areas.

The new lights will be installed in builder colonies and 16 villages newly incorporated into the corporation area. Residents have specifically requested lighting in areas such as Mayfield Garden, Malibu Towne, Sushant Lok-II, Sushant Lok-III, Greenwood City, Rosewood City, Ardee City, DLF Phase-IV, and DLF Phase-V.

Key Facts

  • Gurugram currently has more than 1,00,000 streetlights.
  • 20,000 lights are connected to the Centralised Control and Monitoring System (CCMS).
  • 797 CCMS panels have been installed.
  • 6,000 new streetlights were installed recently.
  • The city is divided into 36 wards under MCG.

Under the Mission Bright Gurugram initiative, launched by Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya, faulty streetlights are being repaired continuously. Two agencies are currently engaged in this effort to ensure streetlights are functional across the city.

Corporation officials said adequate lighting not only increases convenience for residents but also enhances the safety of drivers and pedestrians, improves night-time traffic management, and aids in crime prevention. Citizens can report faulty streetlights by calling the Municipal Corporation helpline at 18001801817.

“Ten thousand new streetlights will be installed in the city before Diwali. Preparations are complete, and the repair and maintenance work will be handled by agencies,” said Ashish Hooda, SDO, Electrical Wing, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram.
