Negligence by the GMDA almost led to a major accident in the early hours of Thursday near Sector-84, beyond the Dwarka Expressway in Gurugram. A tractor-trailer filled with gravel fell into a drain dug by the GMDA in the middle of the main road. The driver and his assistant had a narrow escape. According to information, the tractor-trailer was heading to its destination at around 5:30 am when it fell into the drain dug in the middle of the road. Large iron rods were protruding from the edges of the drain, which could have made the accident more serious. Fortunately, the driver and assistant did not suffer any serious injuries and managed to get out safely.

Lack Of Barricades And Safety Warnings

Local residents say the accident occurred because the GMDA had dug a drain in the middle of the road and failed to implement any safety measures at the site. There was no barricading around the drain, nor were any reflective tapes or warning signs installed, which meant the driver was unaware of the excavation and the tractor-trailer fell directly into it.

Officials Discuss Safety Standards Amid Public Outcry

Regarding the incident, Traffic Inspector Manoj stated that discussions are underway with GMDA officials about safety measures near the drain. He added that disregarding safety standards during construction work is a serious issue. Local residents have demanded that the administration ensure robust barricading and warning signs are installed during construction work, so that such accidents can be avoided in the future.
