The Crime Branch arrested two men within 48 hours in connection with the brutal assault and alleged gang rape of a 25-year-old woman in Faridabad late Monday night. According to police, the accused lured the woman into their van under the pretext of giving her a lift while she was travelling from Metro Chowk to Kalyanpuri Chowk, where she resides.

Instead of dropping her at her destination, the men drove towards Gurgaon Road, where they allegedly sexually assaulted her inside the moving vehicle. The victim was reportedly kept inside the van for nearly three hours as it travelled through deserted areas of Faridabad in heavy fog and cold conditions. After the assault, the accused dumped her near a hotel in SGM Nagar before fleeing the scene. The woman sustained serious facial injuries and required 12 stitches.

Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s sister, an FIR was registered at Kotwali police station. A crime branch team picked up two suspects on Tuesday, and both have since been formally arrested. The van used in the crime has also been recovered, and the accused are currently being interrogated.

As per the complaint, the woman had left her home around 8.30 pm following an argument with her mother and informed her sister that she was going to visit a friend. When she attempted to return home close to midnight, she could not find any transport and accepted a lift from the two men, which led to the assault.

In a separate incident, Sumit, a railway supervisor from Kitholi village, died by suicide on Monday morning after hanging himself from a mango tree on the outskirts of Dadri village. The act reportedly occurred during a live video call to a woman who had earlier accused him of rape.

Police said Sumit, who worked at New Sakauti railway station, reached a Dadri orchard around 7 am, called the survivor, and, after she refused to settle the ongoing case against him, took his own life. The woman reportedly captured screenshots during the call.

The case dates back to 2021, when Sumit was accused of raping the woman at a hotel in Kanker Khera. After being jailed and released on bail, he allegedly harassed her, including sending noose images and making repeated suicidal threats, prompting the survivor to file additional intimidation complaints. Police recovered a suicide note and his motorcycle at the scene. Officials confirmed no fault on the part of the woman, and a post-mortem has been completed while investigations continue.
