At least four people, including a woman, have been arrested for allegedly injecting a doctor with HIV-infected blood in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district, police said on Sunday. According to PTI, the victim is the wife of the prime accused’s former lover.
The arrested accused were identified as B Boya Vasundhara (34), Konge Jyothi (40), a nurse at a private hospital in Adoni; and Jyothi’s two children, both in their 20s. The arrests were made on January 24.

Police said Vasundhara conspired with the others to target the victim after allegedly being unable to accept that her former lover had married another woman. As part of the plan, the accused staged a road accident and injected the victim with HIV-infected blood.
According to investigators, the accused procured HIV-positive blood samples from patients undergoing treatment at a government hospital, falsely claiming the samples were needed for research. Police said the blood was stored in a refrigerator and later used in the attack.
The incident occurred on January 9 around 2.30 pm when the victim, an assistant professor at a private medical college in Kurnool, was returning home on a scooter for lunch. Police said two persons on a motorcycle deliberately rammed into her scooter near the KC Canal at Vinayak Ghat, causing her to fall and sustain injuries.
As the victim lay injured, Vasundhara allegedly approached her under the pretext of offering help. While attempting to take her in an autorickshaw, she allegedly injected the victim with HIV-infected blood before fleeing the spot when the victim raised an alarm.
The victim’s husband, also a doctor, lodged a complaint at Kurnool III Town Police Station on January 10. A case was registered under Sections 126(2), 118(1), 272 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
