Arunachal Flash Floods: Three people went missing after torrential rain in Arunachal Pradesh triggered flash floods in Keyi Panyor district on Wednesday morning, news agency PTI reported. The downpour caused severe damage to low lying areas and 18 homes. Several people were left stranded after a national highway was cut off following landslides.
As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Assam, Meghalaya, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim on Wednesday. The weather department stated that heavy rainfall is also expected in Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, coastal Karnataka, central Maharashtra, Goa, Odisha, Telangana, Kerala, and several northeastern states in the coming days.
According to state disaster management secretary Dani Sulu, the three people went missing after flash floods at the Neepco project colony near Poosa under the Yazali circle.

Low-lying areas in and around the colony were inundated after an under-construction retaining wall collapsed amid heavy rain.
“At least 18 residential units got damaged, and three persons were reportedly missing,” he further said, as quoted by PTI.
“A team of SDRF has been deployed, while the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been alerted and is moving towards the area to assist in relief and rescue efforts,” Sulu further said.
As per Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Guwahati and Meteorological Centre, Itanagar, the Yazali station in Lower Subansiri district recorded about 72.8 mm of rainfall during the last 24 hours, with a major part of the rainfall occurring between 0600 hrs and 0900 hrs on 24 June.
Satellite and radar imagery indicate that torrential rainfall occurred between 0600 hrs and 0730 hrs, resulting in flash floods and a substantial increase in river discharge in the upper catchment areas.
Flash floods have been reported in the Panyor Lower Hydroelectric Project (formerly Ranganadi Hydroelectric Project) area. Due to the sudden increase in inflows, operational measures were undertaken, and one spillway gate was opened to release excess water.
