Assembly Bypolls 2026 Schedule: The Election Commission of India on Sunday announced the schedule for byelections on eight assembly seats across six states, along with the schedule for assembly elections in four states and one UT.
During a press conference, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that eight constituencies in Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Nagaland, Tripura and Maharashtra will go to bypolls in two phases.
In the first phase on April 9, constituencies in Goa, Karnataka, Nagaland and Tripura will go to bypolls, while constituencies in Gujarat and Maharashtra will go to bypolls on April 23.
Assembly Bypolls: Full Schedule
Phase I: Goa, Karnataka, Nagaland and Tripura
- Notification: March 16
- Last Date for Nominations: March 23
- Nominations scrutiny: March 24
- Last date for nominations withdrawal: March 26
- Polling: April 9
Phase II: Gujarat and Maharashtra
- Notification: March 30
- Last Date for Nominations: April 6
- Nominations scrutiny: April 7
- Last date for nominations withdrawal: April 9
- Polling: April 23
The counting of votes for all bypolls will take place on May 4, after which the results will be declared. The poll body has also announced the assembly election schedule for Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Pudducherry.
All the states and UTs will go to the polls in one phase, except West Bengal, where voting will take place in two phases. The results of all the assembly elections will be declared after the counting of votes on May 4.

In Tamil Nadu, the polling will be held on April 23. In Kerala, eligible electors can utilise their right to vote on April 9.
In Assam too, the voting will be held on April 9. In West Bengal, 152 seats will go to polls on April 23 and the remaining 142 will go to polls on April 29.
