Bharat Taxi Service: Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Thursday launched 'Bharat Taxi', India's first cooperative-led ride-hailing platform. The Bharat Taxi, which was unfolded after a successful two-month pilot operation, will be initially available in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat. The government said the service will be expanded across all states and Union Territories within two years.

How Will It Benefits Drivers And Passengers?

Registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, and established on June 6, 2025, Bharat Taxi operates on a zero-commission and surge-free pricing model with direct profit distribution among drivers. Currently, the ride-hailing service market in the country is currently dominated by a few private players, like Uber, Ola and Rapido. The platform prioritises social security for drivers called 'Sarathis' through health insurance, accident insurance, retirement savings and a dedicated support system. Support centres operate at seven locations in Delhi. Since its pilot launch, over 3 lakh drivers have joined the platform, more than 1 lakh users have registered, and over 10,000 rides have been completed daily in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat. Around Rs 10 crore has been distributed directly to drivers so far.

What Is Bharat Taxi Service And Who Has Created It?

The Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited (also known as 'Bharat Taxi') is a pioneering cooperative-driven national ride-hailing initiative. The project aims to transform mobility ecosystem with a cooperative-driven, transparent, and citizen-first ride-hailing platform. The National e-Governance Division (NeGD), Digital India Corporation, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India and Cooperation ministry worked to gether to launched the project, which aims to benefit drivers and people at large. NeGD and Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited came together for extending strategic advisory and technical support in the areas of platform integration, cybersecurity, privacy, compliance and governance.

The Bharat Taxi is being jointly promoted by leading cooperative and financial institutions including NCDC, IFFCO, AMUL, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NABARD, NDDBand NCEL, said the The platform embodies the cooperative movement’s spirit while aligning seamlessly with the vision of the Government’s flagship Digital India programme for delivering inclusive, citizen-centric, and technology-enabled public services.
