Bihar Bus Fare Hike From June 1: Commuting by bus in Bihar is set to become more expensive starting June 1, following a 10 per cent to 15 per cent fare hike approved by the State Transport Department. The price revision applies across all categories including ordinary, deluxe, AC, and Volvo buses as well as city bus services.

According to Jagran.com, the official notification was issued on Friday. This marks the first bus fare hike in Bihar in nearly five years. According to the Transport Department, the revision was necessitated by rising diesel prices, escalating vehicle maintenance costs, and higher overall operational expenses.

Bihar Bus Fare Hike: Check New Fare Structures

The revised rates are structured based on vehicle type and travel distance:

- Ordinary Buses: For journeys up to 50 km, the fare has been raised to Rs 1.73 per km (up from Rs 1.50). For long-distance travel exceeding 250 km, the rate reduces marginally to Rs 1.65 per km.

- Deluxe Buses: Fares have been standardized between Rs 1.87 and Rs 1.96 per km.

- Volvo Buses: Slotted scales apply based on distance:

  • Up to 50 km: Rs 2.88 per km
  • Up to 100 km: Rs 2.85 per km
  • Up to 200 km: Rs 2.80 per km
  • Over 300 km: Rs 2.75 per km

- City Buses: The base fare is set at Rs 1.84 per km for the first 4 km, and Rs 1.73 for every subsequent 2 km.

The Transport Department has directed all bus operators to follow the new rates. Action will be taken upon receiving complaints of charging more than the fixed fare.

The department has also directed to display the fare list at bus stands and inside buses so that passengers can get accurate information.
