Jagran Correspondent, Patna: A protest by the exam candidates at Patna's Patliputra railway station turned violent on Sunday, leading to panic among the locals. As per the reports, some of the protestors vandalised a train and pelted stones at the railways properties during the violent agitation. The Bihar Police fired warning shots in the air and fired tear gas to manage the situation. The officials assured that the situation has been brough under control, adding that a probe has also been launched.
While providing details, Patna District Magistrate Dr Tyagarajan stated that the candidates were upset over the train arrangements ahead of the exam. He asserted that the railway had arranged special trains to manage the rush, adding that two special trains were already at the station. However, he further stated that some miscreants joined the protest and spread misinformation about the arrangements.
The magistrate further stated that they also began pelting stones at the train; however, the police dispersed them by using minimal force to maintain law and order. Apart from this, Patna Range IG Jitendra Rana stated that approximately 200 to 250 students were obstructing train operations at the Patliputra station.
He further stated that the protestors began pelting stones after the police, RPF, and GRP officials attempted to persuade the protesters and clear the tracks. Rana further stated that necessary action was taken by the authorities to restore railway operations and maintain the law and order.
As per the reports, the protestors left the premises after the police station and the trains are currently operating as per their schedules.
