A shocking incident has surfaced from Chhattisgarh where thieves have stolen a 70-foot-long bridge. Police revealed on Saturday that a bridge built four decades ago over a canal in Korba city was stolen overnight.

According to officials, 15 people were involved in the theft of the Korba bridge. The group dismantled the bridge using gas cutters to sell it as scrap. So far, five individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.

40-Year-Old Bridge Stolen In Chhattisgarh Korba

Additional Superintendent of Police, Lakhan Patle, stated, "The bridge over the Hasdeo Left canal in Ward Number 17 of the Dhodhipara area was stolen. This bridge had been in use for the past 40 years." Police added that residents noticed the steel bridge was missing on the morning of January 18, following which local councilor Laxman Shrivas lodged a formal complaint.

Authorities further explained that preliminary investigations revealed the unidentified suspects used gas cutters to slice through the bridge's iron railings. Based on the written complaint filed at the CSEB police outpost, a special police team was constituted to investigate the matter.

Five Suspects Apprehended

Police officials further stated that 15 suspects have been identified in the case. Out of these, five have been arrested, namely: 20-year-old Lochan Kewat, 23-year-old Jaisingh Rajput, 27-year-old Moti Prajapati, 19-year-old Sumit Sahu and 22-year-old Keshavpuri Goswami.

Officials added that the vehicle used to transport the stolen bridge has been seized, and the police are currently investigating where the remaining parts of the structure were sold.
