A shocking incident has come to light from Chhattisgarh, where a man allegedly assaulted his wife over suspicions regarding her character, shaved her head, smeared engine oil and black soot on her face and body and then forced her to drink urine while her children watched in fear. He even recorded the video of the entire ordeal. The victim has lodged a complaint at the Patna police station, following which an investigation has been launched.
According to reports, the woman identified as Tara originally from Karanji village in Jharkhand, married Jitendra Ghasia from Runiyadih village in Chhattisgarh in a love marriage nearly 20 years ago. The couple has four children. Family members said the relationship had been strained for the past year due to the husband's suspicion about his wife's character.
Amid the ongoing discord, the woman had been staying at her maternal home in Karanji, while her husband had gone to Raipur for work as a labourer. According to the complaint, the husband recently returned from Raipur and was informed that his wife was staying with her nephew in the Katkona area of Koriya district. On Sunday, he allegedly travelled to Katkona along with their four children. The victim claimed that upon reaching the location, he began abusing her, physically assaulted her and tore her clothes.
The woman alleged that her husband first cut part of her hair before forcibly shaving her head after pouring grease and Mobil oil on it. She further claimed that black ink was smeared on her face and body and that she was publicly humiliated.
According to the victim, the accused assaulted her in front of their children and even forced them to participate in the assault. She further alleged that she was subjected to inhuman treatment and mentally tortured, with the entire incident being recorded on video. Following the incident, the woman somehow managed to reach her maternal home, where she narrated the ordeal to her family members. They subsequently accompanied her to the Patna police station and filed a complaint.
Police have initiated an investigation into the matter and are recording statements from those concerned.
What Husband said in the video?
In the video, the accused is reportedly also heard accusing his wife of abandoning the family and living with another man. He alleges that she had earlier ran away with his brother-in-law and later with a nephew before returning to him, according to NDTV report.
However, the woman has denied any wrongdoing and told police that her husband had suspected her character for years and regularly assaulted her. "I was beaten earlier too. They suspected me from the beginning. They also demanded dowry. After giving birth to four children, I underwent sterilisation. I want justice and I want him punished," she claimed.
The victim's mother and brother have demanded strict action against the accused, stating that all limits of cruelty had been crossed. Meanwhile, Congress leader Pankaj Tiwari met the victim and described the incident as a serious case of human rights violation and harassment of a woman. He said such inhuman treatment of any woman cannot be tolerated.
Tiwari has also submitted complaints to the National Commission for Women (NCW), the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Director General of Police (DGP), seeking stringent action against the accused.
According to the Patna police station in-charge, statements of the victim's mother and brother have been recorded, and a special police team has been formed to arrest the accused.
