A 4.4 magnitude earthquake jolted Delhi and nearby areas on Thursday morning. Strong tremors were felt in Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad.
As per the National Centre for Seismology, Haryana's Jhajjar was the epicentre of the earthquake, 10 kilometres below the Earth's surface.
Tremors were also felt in several UP cities, including Baghpat, Shamli and Meerut.
In Haryana, the earthquake was felt in cities including Jhajjar, Faridabad, Jind and Sonipat.
People residing in high-rise buildings and houses across the affected area rushed out in panic after witnessing the tremors.
"I felt the tremors...It was a little scary. We should be mindful of safety when this happens," an eyewitness in Delhi said.
Another said, "We felt the tremors...It was really scary, my vehicle shook. It was really strong."
No casualties have been reported so far.
Delhi-NCR is located in India’s Seismic Zone IV and is prone to mild to moderate earthquakes.
Earlier on February 17, a 4.0-magnitude quake hit near Dhaula Kuan in central Delhi. The shallow quake, just 5 km deep, caused noticeable tremors that led many people to rush out of their homes in fear. However, there were no major damages.
