Devotees have been turning up in large numbers for the Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir. Many people have started their journey directly from Kashmir. In just a week's time, the number of people who embarked on the pilgrimage crossed 1 lakh. The number is quite impressive considering the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.

This year's Amarnath Yatra has the biggest military deployment ever, as it is happening after the Pahalgam terror attack, which happened on April 22. Despite the valley already being packed with security forces, about 600 additional companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed for yatra duty.

On average, about 7,000 pilgrims travel from Jammu to the base camps in scheduled convoys, accompanied by heavy contingents of security forces. But the number of people reaching the cave temple every day shows that most pilgrims prefer to travel without safety equipment.

On Tuesday, 26,000 people visited the Amarnath cave, while 7,000 people came in the officially scheduled convoy from Jammu. Amit, a pilgrim from Delhi, cited by Jagrn.com, said that it is easy and comfortable to reach here alone. Otherwise, in the scheduled convoy, you have to follow strict guidelines and restrictions.

Amit reached Pahalgam with his five friends and is preparing to embark on the yatra. The journey from Chandanwari to the Amarnath cave is more than 30 kilometres. He said that the presence of security on the way strengthens the sense of security, while travelling outside the convoy gives them freedom to roam around and enjoy the beauty of Kashmir.
