Delhi-Katra Expressway Update: The Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway has been completed across a 116-kilometre stretch in Haryana, and vehicular movement has already begun. While construction in Jammu and Kashmir is nearly finished, work in Punjab is still ongoing and is expected to be completed by December.
Once fully operational, the expressway will reduce travel time from Delhi to Katra to just six hours, significantly easing the journey for pilgrims visiting Vaishno Devi. The expressway passes through Gohana in Sonipat, with designated entry and exit points at two locations for convenient access.
With Haryana's section now complete, connectivity between Delhi and Punjab has improved. Travelers can join the expressway near Rukhi village in Gohana and reach the KMP Expressway at Nilothi in Jhajjar, providing quick access to Delhi. In the opposite direction, the route extends to Kharak Pandava village in Kaithal, near the Punjab border.

Previously, the journey from Delhi to Katra followed the GT Road route via Ambala, entering Punjab before reaching Jammu and Kashmir. This route spanned approximately 727 kilometres and, due to heavy traffic, took around 12 to 13 hours to complete.
In April 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway under the Bharatmala Project. Once fully operational, this expressway will reduce the distance between Delhi and Katra to 670 kilometres, significantly cutting travel time to just six hours. The expressway begins at Jasor Khedi in Haryana and extends all the way to Jammu.
In Haryana, a 116-kilometer section of the expressway includes a 26-kilometre stretch passing through Gohana in the Sonipat district. This development has greatly improved connectivity to Delhi and Punjab for residents of the entire Sonipat region. Previously, people from Gohana had to travel to Delhi via Sonipat (about 85 km, taking 2.5 hours) or via Rohtak (around 105 km, taking 3 hours). Reaching the Punjab border near Kaithal also required a longer route through Jind, taking 2.5 to 3 hours.
Now, the expressway offers direct and faster access. Entry and exit points have been constructed near Rukhi village on the Rohtak-Panipat (709) highway and near Gangana village on the Gohana-Jind (352A) highway.
To travel toward Delhi, vehicles can enter the expressway near Rukhi and travel 34 kilometres to reach Nilothi village in Jhajjar. From there, the KMP Expressway provides seamless access to the Tikri border of Delhi as well as to key regions like Palwal, Manesar, and other districts in Haryana.
