In a major setback to jailed Aam Aadmi Party leader Satyendar Jain, Delhi's Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Saturday approved an investigation against him in a corruption case. According to the case details shared by the LG office, Jain allegedly received a bribe of Rs 7 crore in connection with a government project. Jain will be investigated under the Prevention of Corruption (PoC) Act by the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Delhi Police.

Notably, Satyendar Jain remains in Tihar jail in a separate case of disproportionate assets. The Enforcement Directorate had arrested him in May 2022 in relation to the case.

"Delhi LG VK Saxena approves investigation under the Prevention of Corruption (PoC) Act against jailed former Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain in a bribery case. Satyendar Jain is accused of receiving a bribe of Rs 7 crore in connection with a Rs 571 crore project for the installation of CCTVs in 70 Assembly constituencies," the release from the LG office stated.

"LG agreed with the proposal of DoV to refer the matter under Section 17 A of the PoC Act, 1998 to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for approving an investigation against Jain by ACB," it further added.

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party termed the LG order as an attempt to "paralyse the Delhi government." Attacking the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the issue, AAP leader and Delhi minister Atishi said: "BJP is engaged in conspiracy against the Delhi government day and night. More than 200 cases were filed against Aam Aadmi Party leaders in 10 years. But to date, not a single rupee of corruption has been recovered from anywhere. Now this is another fake case. BJP wants to paralyze the Delhi government."

Bribery Case Against Satyendar Jain

Satyendar Jain was allegedly bribed by the officials of Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) when he was serving as the minister in the Delhi government. The AAP leader was reportedly paid Rs 7 crore in connection to a CCTV instalment project across the national capital, Hindustan Times reported.
