As light drizzle lashed parts of Delhi on Friday, the IMD issued a red alert, bringing down temperature and humidity for the coming hours . The unexpected spell of rain brought down temperatures across the capital, making the weather pleasant as overcast skies continued to hover over the region.
Sharing a post on X, Weatherman Navdeep Dahiya said that rainfall is expected across Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM, covering approximately 30 per cent to 60 per cent of the area. Most parts are likely to receive rainfall ranging between 10mm and 40mm, with isolated pockets potentially exceeding 40mm. "As the rain-bearing clouds track from east to west, arrival times will vary by location, and commuters are advised to prepare for potential waterlogging and traffic disruptions during the evening hours," he added.
The minimum temperatures across Delhi were in the range of 23-27 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). During the early hours, the capital city recorded a maximum temperature of 36.6 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung on Thursday, 3.1 degrees above normal. The IMD has not issued a weather warning for Delhi on September 11.
The weather is expected to remain unsettled over the weekend. The weather department forecasted Delhi could see light rainfall at many places on Saturday while another spell of light rain is forecast on Sunday.
