Travelers can now cover the 82-km distance between Delhi and Meerut in just 55 minutes with Namo Bharat Rapid Rail. While the train was previously operational only between New Ashok Nagar and Meerut, the track and station infrastructure extending to Sarai Kale Khan are now complete.
During a successful trial run on Friday, the train departed from Sarai Kale Khan at 12:00 pm and reached Meerut’s Begumpul station in a record 39 minutes without any intermediate stops. The train clocked a top speed of 150 km per hour during this run, showcasing its advanced technical capabilities.
Sarai Kale Khan: A Mega Multi-Modal Hub
The Sarai Kale Khan station has been developed as a massive transportation hub. It is designed to serve as the interchange point for the future Delhi-Karnal and Delhi-Alwar Rapid Rail routes. To ensure seamless connectivity, the station is integrated with Indian Railways and the Delhi Metro (DMRC).
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has confirmed that the Delhi section of the corridor is ready for public use. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to officially inaugurate this segment on February 22.
Highlights of the Delhi-Meerut Corridor
The 82-km corridor is designed to transform regional travel with the following key features:
Total Reach: The corridor spans from Jangpura in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut.
Namo Bharat Stations: There are 16 dedicated stations for the Rapid Rail service.
Meerut Metro Integration: A unique feature of this project is the integration of the Meerut Metro, which will have 13 stations ranging from Meerut South to the Modipuram Depot.
Current Status: Presently, a 55-km segment with 11 stations (New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South) is operational.
High-Speed Engineering: The trains are designed for a maximum speed of 160 km per hour, ensuring the entire journey takes less than an hour.

Seamless Connectivity With Other Transport Modes
The project emphasises "last-mile connectivity" through several unique features at the Sarai Kale Khan station:
Footover Bridge: A 280-meter long bridge connects the Rapid Rail station directly to the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station.
Travelators: To assist passengers, six travelators (moving walkways) have been installed on the bridge to minimise walking time.
Inter-linking: The station offers direct access to the Delhi Metro Pink Line, the Veer Hakikat Rai ISBT (bus terminal) and the Ring Road.
Once fully operational, the Namo Bharat train will provide a swift, comfortable, and reliable transit option for thousands of daily commuters traveling between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
