Jagran Correspondent | New Delhi: Traffic movement has been affected in several areas after a building collapsed at Satya Niketan in Delhi on Sunday. The tragedy has led to a gridlock in areas including Safdarjung Hospital towards Dhaula Kuan, along with RTR and Benito Juarez Marg. Locals travelling through these routes may face delays and congestion during the day as rescue operations continue.
Traffic Flow Affected
Following the tragedy, traffic flow has been affected on the routes from Safdarjung Hospital towards Dhaula Kuan, as well as on RTR and Benito Juarez Marg.
Travellers have been advised to avoid these stretches, if possible, and use alternate routes to avoid getting delayed in traffic congestion around the affected area. Traffic police officials are present at particular spots, and passengers are being advised to follow their directions while commuting in the city.
People travelling at the Satya Niketan area have been advised not to halt, park or gather at the site. Relief and rescue operations are being conducted in the area; a clear route is therefore being expected to ensure smooth movements of emergency vehicles.
Commuters are advised to take alternative routes where possible and follow the traffic guidelines to ensure chaos-free travelling in the area.
The Satya Niketan Tragedy
At least six people died after a 40-year-old building collapsed in southwest Delhi’s Satya Niketan area on Sunday. Teams of the Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Service, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) were involved in the rescue operation. Emergency personnel worked through the debris to trace those still feared trapped.
The five-storey building, including a basement, was nearly 40 years old. A PG accommodation was there in the building and was located in the densely populated Satya Niketan area, known for its concentration of student accommodations and eateries near the university campus.
Repair work was being carried out at the basement when the incident took place. Locals had claimed that water had accumulated in the basement following days of rain and may have weakened the building’s foundation, though the exact cause of the collapse has not yet been established
