Delhi Weather Update: No immediate relief is in sight for residents of the national capital and surrounding areas, as a brutal heatwave that has gripped Delhi and several parts of North India is set to persist.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that severe heatwave conditions will continue with varying intensity for most of the next week as well.
Heatwave To Grip Again After A Temporary Relief
The national capital received much-needed relief on Saturday as strong winds, thunderstorms, and light rain brought temperatures down by a few degrees. However, the relief is short-lived as heatwave conditions are expected to grip the city again starting Sunday, May 24.
- The weather office has forecast heatwave conditions in isolated pockets of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh between May 24 and 29, with severe heatwave conditions between May 24 and 27.
- Heatwave conditions are expected to persist most of the week before tapering off toward the end of the week on Friday, May 29.

May 23: The IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, dust storms, and strong surface winds throughout the day. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 41 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will settle at 28 degrees Celsius.
May 24: Severe heatwave conditions are set to tighten their grip on the national capital starting Sunday, May 24. An orange alert has been issued.
May 25: Similar conditions are likely to persist on May 25, with a possibility of the development of thunder and lightning.
May 26: Delhi is expected to reel under severe heatwave conditions, with a yellow alert in place for the capital.
May 27: The weather office has issued a yellow alert, warning of strong surface winds and a heatwave throughout the day.
May 28: No relief is in sight as the IMD has issued a yellow alert for continued heatwave conditions.
May 29: Heatwave conditions are expected to ease, with no weather alerts in place. However, strong surface winds are likely.
