The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is going to increase the toll for light vehicles by 5 per cent, and for large vehicles by 10 per cent from April 1, according to a report by News18. At present, the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, spanning 135 km, levies a toll of Rs 2.19 per kilometre by the NHAI.
The toll will rise dramatically in light of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway's length, raising the cost of transportation.
Thousands of commuters on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway as well as the Eastern Peripheral Expressway are anticipated to be impacted by the change.
According to the report, the NHAI decided to increase the toll on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway in order to generate extra revenue for the upkeep and development of the expressway's infrastructure.

One will now be required to pay Rs 168 if you drive a light vehicle, such as a car, from Meerut to Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi. This price was Rs 160 earlier. On the other hand, heavy vehicles that previously paid Rs 250 for the same stretch will now have to pay Rs 262.2 after April 1.
Following the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008, the toll tariff is modified annually.
The report states that the NHAI's Project Implementation Unit (PIU) submitted the proposal for the updated toll prices on March 25. The amended tariffs will take effect on April 1, after receiving the Ministry of Road and Transport's approval.
The main toll plaza for the Delhi-Meerut Expressway is situated in Kashi, Meerut.
On Wednesday, Union Road Minister Nitin Gadkari stated that the Centre is thinking about closing toll plazas. "There will be a satellite base toll collection system."
"Now we are ending toll and there will be a satellite base toll collection system. Money will be deducted from your bank account and the amount of road you cover will be charged accordingly. Through this time and money can be saved," he said.
