Grok Images Row: Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has reportedly deleted 600 accounts and removed 3,500 posts after the government raised objections to the obscene content on the platform. The firm has also assured that it will not allow obscene content on the platform and will follow the guidelines issued by the government. Earlier last week, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had directed the online platforms, including X, to remove the obscene content from their sites. It further stated that strict action will be taken against the websites promoting such content.

The social media platform deleted 600 accounts and removed the posts after repeated warnings from the centre, reported the Hindustan Times. In its advisory, the ministry had stated that the online platforms will not be allowed to host or promote obscene content, adding that strict action will be taken in the cases of non-obligation.

"The intermediaries shall not permit the hosting, displaying, uploading, publication, transmission, storage, sharing of any content that is obscene, pornographic, vulgar, indecent, sexually explicit, paedophilic, or otherwise prohibited under any law for the time being in force in any manner whatsoever," the advisory said.

"It is reiterated that non-compliance with the provisions of the IT Act and/or the IT Rules, 2021 may result in consequences, including prosecution under the IT Act, BNS, and other applicable criminal laws, against the intermediaries, platforms and their users," it added.

X Assured Action

Earlier on January 8, X assured to take strict action against the accounts promoting such content and expressed willingness to provide a demonstration of how its AI platform works. A controversy sparked after a trend started on X where users asked Grok AI to alter the images of women by changing their clothing patterns. The IT Ministry on January 2 sent a stern notice to the firm, arguing that the trend was not in adherence to country's laws.
