A 17-year-old girl allegedly drugged her father and watched as her lover stabbed him to death after he opposed their relationship in Gujarat’s Vadodara
Vadodara last week. Police have arrested two accused in connection with the murder, while the minor girl has been sent to a child protection home.
According to an NDTV report, the victim, identified as Shana Chavda, had strongly objected to his daughter’s relationship with Ranjeet Gajendrabhai Vaghela (24). The couple had eloped in July, following which Chavda filed a case against Ranjeet under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Ranjeet was arrested but later released on bail in August.

Investigators said the couple then plotted to eliminate Chavda. The girl allegedly made an earlier attempt to drug her parents on December 16, which failed. On the night of December 18, she mixed sleeping pills into their food. After her father lost consciousness, Ranjeet and his friend, Bhavya Maheshbhai Vasava (23), entered his room and stabbed him multiple times.
"His daughter had been planning the murder for the last three months. This is a love affair, which her father was against. He had kept his daughter and his wife in one room at night. He used to lock them from outside after tying them up and kept the key with him," Sushil Agarwal, Vadodara district police chief, said.
Police said the girl watched the murder through a window to ensure her father was dead. Ranjeet, who worked at a papad factory, and his accomplice have been arrested, while the minor has been placed in a child protection home. Police are continuing efforts to recover the weapons used in the crime.
In a separate incident, a 40-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her two sons, one of whom is a minor, in a shocking incident that came to light within hours. Both boys were arrested after reportedly confessing during police questioning.
According to a Times of India report, the victim’s father lodged the FIR. The family had been working as farm labourers in the area for the past year, and the woman was living separately from her husband, a cattle herder who was away at work at the time.

Police said the elder son is 19 while the younger is a minor. Investigations suggest the brothers were upset over their mother’s alleged behaviour, accusing her of staying up late, talking on the phone and neglecting household duties. On the night of the incident, they allegedly strangled her in a fit of rage after finding her on the phone again. The crime came to light after the farm owner informed the victim’s father about the confession. A case has been registered under IPC sections 103(1) and 54, and further investigation is underway.
