Karnataka Crime: 19-Year-Old Pregnant Woman Killed By Father In Hubballi For Inter-Caste Marriage

Karnataka Crime: A 19-year-old pregnant woman in Karnataka was brutally killed, allegedly by her father, on Sunday over her marriage with a person outside her caste. The victim's family was reportedly upset over her decision to marry despite strong objection from them. Manya Patil, the deceased, had been living around 100 kilometers away from her family due to a threat over her life; however, she returned to her native village shortly. The victim's family was attacked by unidentified men on Sunday, leading to injury to the family members and her death. The police have detained three key accused, including the victim's father, and have launched a detailed probe into the matter.

Earlier in May, Patil got married to her lover (outside her caste) despite strong opposition from her parents, reported NDTV. The couple shifted to Haveri district, around 100 km away from their native place, after receiving multiple death threats. The family returned to their native village on December 8 after several months, expecting an ease of tension; however, the victim's husband and father-in-law were attacked by the woman's family members on Sunday.

While they both managed to escape the attack, the assaulter later barged into their house in the evening hours with iron pipes and sticks. The victim's in-laws, Renukamma and Subhash, got severely injured in their attempt to save Manya from the attackers. The officials stated that while the other family members sustained injuries, Patil was declared dead by the doctors.

The police have arrested three suspects, and a special team has also been formed to further investigate the matter. In separate news, a woman in Haryana was reportedly killed for being in a relationship with a person outside her community. The officials stated that the 19-year-old victim's brother was upset over her relationship and plotted the crime along with his 30-year-old friend.
