State Bureau, Ahmedabad: While relief and rescue operations continue in flood-hit South Gujarat, heavy rainfall has temporarily subsided across the region. However, this respite may be short-lived for other parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the next 24 hours in some districts of North Gujarat, including Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, Patan, and Mehsana, as well as Surendranagar and Morbi in Saurashtra.

Heavy Rains Trigger Flood-Like Situation In Gujarat

Heavy rainfall over the past three to four days has triggered flood-like conditions in South, North, and Central Gujarat. The widespread flooding has caused widespread distress, trapping families inside their homes and submerging vehicles under rising floodwaters.

Meanwhile, intense rainfall in Ahmedabad last night turned the Sanathal area into an island, stranding heavy vehicles like trucks and tractors. The state's Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam has reached 68 per cent capacity, 15 reservoirs are full, 27 have reached 50 per cent to 70 per cent capacity, and 53 have reached 25 per cent to 50 per cent capacity.

BJP State President Jagdish Vishwakarma on Saturday visited flood-affected areas of Valsad district, including Umargam, Pardi, Salwala, and Vapi, to interact with victims and oversee ongoing relief efforts.

Earlier, the BJP established helplines from its state office as well as its Ahmedabad office to supply ration kits and essential food items. Joining the effort, Narendra Singh Rajpurohit of the Gujarat Foundation prepared and distributed Namo Food Packets to those in need.

Two Pregnant Women Give Birth Amid Flood-Like Situation In Gujarat

In Bhetawada village of Dholka town in rural Ahmedabad, when a pregnant woman went into labour amid rising floodwaters, an NDRF team immediately took her by boat to a 108 ambulance from where she was taken to the Dholka Community Health Centre.

Earlier, under the guidance of Ahmedabad Collector Bhavya Verma, pregnant women from two flood-hit villages in the district were taken to hospital. Among them, 23-year-old Dakshaben Chunara of Kubdathal village went into labour pain and was rushed to the local Primary Health Centre, where she gave birth at 4:00 AM.

Additionally, Jyotsna Thakor of Mandal, Gandhinagar, was immediately admitted to Krishna Hospital in Mandal, where she delivered a healthy baby.
