A 19-year-old female student of a government college in Himachal Pradesh's Dharmshala died after she was ragged, beaten, and harassed by three students and allegedly raped by a professor.
The victim died during treatment at a Ludhiana hospital on December 26 last year, and the case was registered on Thursday. The girl was hospitalised over injuries following a beating and harassment.
The professor has been booked for sexual harassment, while three students have been booked for ragging her and voluntarily causing hurt.
According to a report by Jagran.com, the student was teased by fellow students over her caste and had failed in her first-year BA.
The case was registered after a complaint was filed by the victim's father, who alleged that his daughter was beaten by three seniors, Harshita, Aakriti, and Komolika, on September 18, 2025.
On December 20th, he filed a complaint with the Chief Minister's Helpline. When the police investigated the case and attempted to record the student's statement, she was unable to do so. Statements from the college administration and the student's father were also recorded.

In his complaint, he accused a college professor, named Ashok Kumar, of indulging in obscene acts with her. The father of the victim has pointed out that the complaint could not be lodged earlier as his daughter was traumatised and had to be hospitalised.
The police have registered a case under sections 75 (sexual harassment), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 3(5) (common intention) of BNS, and Section 3 of the Himachal Pradesh Educational Institution (Prohibition of) Ragging Act 2009 has been registered, and investigations are underway, police said.

Ashok Ratna, Superintendent of Police, Kangra, said, "The police received a complaint through the Chief Minister's helpline. After an investigation, the case was closed at the request of the student's father. The video is now being circulated after the student's death. A police investigating officer was sent to the student's home. An FIR has now been registered. An investigation is underway to determine whether the allegations made in the video are true. The role of the college, professors, and students in this case will also be investigated."
