India-Pakistan Tensions: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Several crucial decisions were taken in the the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS). Another meeting, Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) will be held later today.
This will be the Union Cabinet's first meeting since the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, in which 26 people, mostly tourists were killed.
Here are other developments in deteriorating ties between India and Pakistan:
- Former R&AW chief Alok Joshi has been appointed as its Chairman. Former Western Air Commander Air Marshal PM Sinha, former Southern Army Commander Lt Gen AK Singh and Rear Admiral Monty Khanna are the retired officers from the military services. Rajiv Ranjan Verma and Manmohan Singh are the two retired members from the Indian Police Service. B Venkatesh Varma is a retired IFS in the seven-member board
- Earlier, PM Modi chaired a high-level meeting, which was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and the chiefs of three services.
- In the meeting, the prime minister affirmed that it is the national resolve to deal a crushing blow to terrorism. He told the top defence brass that the armed forces have "complete operational freedom" to decide on the mode, targets and timing of India's response to the Pahalgam terror attack, the PTI said quoting the government sources.
- Pakistani citizens continue to leave India following the Indian government's decision to cancel all their visas who are currently in the country in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 Indian tourists.

- As many as 786 Pakistan nationals have left India through the Attari-Wagah border point within six days beginning April 24.
- The authorities said that during the same time, a total of 1376 Indians have returned from Pakistan through the Attari-Wagah border.
- After resorting to unprovoked ceasefire violations on the Line of Control (LoC) consecutively for the last six days, the Pakistani Army on Wednesday opened unprovoked firing on the International Border (IB) in the Jammu district.
