Jabalpur Boat Accident: At least nine people died, and several others are missing after a cruise ship carrying tourists capsized at Bargi Dam in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur. The accident occurred when a sudden storm and strong waves hit the vessel, causing it to overturn.

Survivor Recounts Horror

Speaking to NDTV, Syed Riyaz Hussain, a resident of Jabalpur, said he saw his mother drown. He further stated that his wife, grandson and sister-in-law are still missing.

A family of six was bursting with laughter on board the cruise ship when the vessel suddenly began to fill with water. A daughter from the family, who was holding her father's hand, saw her grandmother drown, while her mother, brother, and grandfather were lost in the chaos.

The survivor of the cruise accident reported that while she had found her grandfather, her mother and brother are missing.

"The cruise had capsized, there was a sudden flood, and the ship was filled with water. My mother and brother are missing, I found my grandfather," NDTV quoted the survivor as saying.

9 People Have Died So Far

Nine people died, and several others are missing after a cruise ship capsized at the Bargi Dam on the Narmada River during a sudden storm. Teams of the Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have launched a joint search and rescue operation.

During the operation, rescue teams recovered the bodies of a woman and her son, who were found holding each other.

Authorities To Investigate Issue Of Life Jackets

Speaking to PTI, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Minister Dharmendra Bhav Singh Lodhi said that a detailed investigation into the accident will be conducted, and the issue of life jackets raised by one of the survivors would also be looked into.

Meanwhile, Jabalpur Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Atul Singh said that some bodies are feared to be trapped inside, but low visibility has made it difficult to ascertain the exact number.

The families of the deceased will receive a compensation of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF). The injured will be given Rs 50,000.
