Eight soldiers have been injured in an encounter with the Pakistani terrorists in the Singhpora area of Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district, according to a report by Jagran.com.

The encounter broke out on Sunday after connection was established with the terrorists during a deliberate search operation by the army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The security forces launched Operation Trashi-1 and additional forces were deployed as search and cordon operation continued.

The contact was established as a terrorist opened fire at the security forces during a deliberate search operation conducted as part of ongoing joint counter-terror operations. At least 3 terrorists of Jaish-e-Muhammad are suspected to be trapped in the forest area.

Earlier in the day, the White Knight Corps of the Indian Army issued a statement, saying, "Contact was established with terrorists in the general area Son Nar, northeast of Chhatru, during a deliberate search operation conducted as part of ongoing joint counter-terror operations along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Troops displayed exceptional professionalism and resolve while responding to hostile fire under challenging terrain and conditions."

"Operations remain underway with additional forces inducted to reinforce the cordon, supported by close coordination with civil administration and security agencies," the statement read.

According to a Jagran.com report, the security forces had received intelligence reports on the presence of Pakistani terrorists in the dense forest and hilly areas of Kathua, Poonch, Rajouri, Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur and Reasi in the Jammu division. Since the, the security forces have maintained a sharp eye and enhanced vigilance in the area.

This marks the third encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Jammu region this year. Earlier, two encounters were reported in the Kahog and Najote forests in the Billawar area of Kathua district on January 7 and 13.
