Jharkhand: In an ongoing encounter in the Saranda forest of Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district, security forces killed notorious Maoist leader Anal, who carried a bounty of Rs 1 crore. A Central Committee Member (CCM) of the CPI (Maoist), Anal had long been on the security forces’ most wanted list.

Security forces are carrying out an intensive search operation in the Chotanagrah police station area. After the encounter, a high alert has been declared in the entire area and additional forces have been sent to the spot. Anal's squad had a direct encounter with the Cobra-209 battalion.

Anal, alias Tufan, alias Patiram Manjhi, alias Patiram Marandi, alias Ramesh, was a resident of Jharabale village in Giridih district. He had been active in the forests of Saranda and Giridih for a long time. He had cases registered against him for several serious crimes, including murder, explosives, weapons possession, and robbery.

Anal was not only involved in Maoist activities but also managed to evade police and CRPF operations several times. Due to his tactics and activism, he was considered extremely dangerous to state security agencies, sources said as per a jagran.com report.

According to sources, 12 Maoists have been killed so far in this fierce encounter. However, official confirmation from security forces is awaited. Search operations are still underway in the area, and security forces have cordoned off the entire area.

According to local residents and officials, Maoist activities in the Saranda forest have long been a concern. Following Anal's killing, security forces have increased vigilance in the area and intensified patrolling and search operations in surrounding villages.

Maoist Leaders Killed Rececntly

1. Maoist Politburo member Prashant Bose, carrying a bounty of Rs 1 crore, was caught in Saraikela-Kharsawan.

2. Maoist Central Committee member Sudhakar, carrying a bounty of Rs 1 crore, escaped from Jharkhand and surrendered before the Telangana government.

3. Central Committee member Prayag Manjhi alias Vivek, carrying a bounty of Rs 1 crore, was killed in an encounter in April 2025.

4. Maoist Central Committee member Anuj alias Sahdev Soren alias Pravesh alias Amlesh, carrying a bounty of Rs 1 crore, was killed in an encounter in Hazaribagh in September last year.
