Karnataka Doctor Murder Case: A 45-year-old doctor was murdered, and his 8-year-old son was found injured at his residence in Dharwad, Karnataka. According to police, his wife is the prime suspect as she was in the house when the crime was carried out. However, the police said the probe is on, and they have not reached a conclusion.
The doctor's body was recovered from a room in his house, while his son was also found in a pool of blood in another room. The doctor was identified as Dr Kiran Honannavar, an anesthesiologist at Chirayu Hospital. His wife, Dr Priyanka, an ophthalmologist, has been detained for questioning. ToI reported that their child is mentally ill.
Hubli-Dharwad Police Commissioner N Sasikumar said, "Initial investigations reveal no signs of outsiders entering the apartment, as it is a highly secure residential complex."
Police said that only three people were inside the house at the time of the incident: the husband, wife, and child. The matter came to light after Dr Kiran's relatives repeatedly tried to contact him.
Wife Attempts To Mislead Relatives
Dr Kiran's wife initially told people that he was resting and later said he had gone out. When Dr Kiran could not be found by evening, family members rushed to the apartment and found him covered in blood. They also found the injured child inside.
Police said the child was breathing when they arrived and was immediately taken to the hospital. Police have yet to determine the exact sequence of events.
Motive Yet To Be Ascertained
Police stated that the wife is still in a state of shock and is making strange and contradictory statements. He said investigators are verifying her statements about the incident and gathering information from both families to determine the motive behind the incident.
There was no indication of any dispute between the doctor's family and neighbours, and CCTV footage from the apartment complex will be examined as part of the investigation, they added.
Officials have registered a case at the Suburban Police Station. Police said the exact cause and circumstances of the murder will only be clear after a post-mortem examination and further investigation.
Although relatives alleged that Dr Priyanka was responsible for the murder, police have not yet confirmed this. Officials also said the incident appears to be the result of a domestic dispute, although the exact motive is not yet known.
