A massive controversy sparked after the installation of a statue of a trainee doctor near RG Kar's principal's house. Protesting junior doctors installed a statue named 'Cry of the Hour' on a pedestal near the hospital. Artist Asit Sain said that the statue depicts the victim's last-minute horror. 

A junior doctor of the hospital claimed, as quoted by India Today, "This statue is not of the victim, but a symbol of the pain and torture she went through and the ongoing protests."
However, the installation of the statue received mixed reactions from the netizens, as most of them referred to the act as'shameful' and 'disturbing'. 

"W** is this? The doctors of this country are so tone deaf. Why would you ever create a statue like this based on a rape victim?" a user wrote on X. 

Replying to his post, another person wrote, "Doctors in this country need some psych evaluations and political science baked into them; this is just disgusting."

Trinmool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh also criticised the doctors over the installation of the statue. He claimed that the doctors have violated the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court, which prohibit the revelation of the victim's name and identity. 

Kunal Ghosh, on X, posted, "No responsible person can do that. Not even in the name of art. There will be protests and demands for justice. But the statue is not right with the face of the girl in pain. There are guidelines not to use victim's pictures or statues."

However, doctors have justified their act by stating that they have not violated any rules. Dr. Debdutt of RG Kar hospital said, as quoted by India Today, "We have not broken any rules or neglected the court's order. This is just a symbolic sculpture, and we don't want to depict only her. We want to show the authorities what had happened and how she had suffered. We will continue to fight for justice."

The doctors have stalled the work post Tuesday, claiming that their demands have not been fulfilled by the state government, as per the promises.
