Kolkata News: Kolkata Police, investigating the mysterious deaths of three family members, including a 14-year-old girl, have uncovered financial distress behind the case. The victims were found dead on February 19 at their residence in Tangra, on Kolkata’s eastern outskirts. Initial findings suggest that despite mounting debts, the family maintained an extravagant lifestyle.

According to a NDTV report, Kolkata police are now preparing to take into custody two hospitalised brothers, Prasun De and Pranay Dey, once they are discharged. The two men, who are biological brothers, are suspected of killing their wives and the teenage girl before attempting suicide. However, their plan was thwarted when their vehicle met with a severe accident, leading to their hospitalisation.

The crime came to light when Kolkata Police's traffic department visited the family home to investigate the accident. Inside, officers discovered the bodies of Romi Dey, Sudeshna Dey and 14-year-old Priyamvada Dey. Romi was married to Prasun, while Sudeshna was the wife of Pranay. Priyamvada was the daughter of Prasun and Romi.

Initially, it was believed that the three had died by suicide. However, the post-mortem reports ruled out this possibility, raising suspicions of murder. Investigators suspect that the brothers may have killed their family members before attempting to take their own lives.

The NDTV report cited Police sources as stating that the Dey family, who were involved in the leather goods business, had accumulated massive debts. Despite their financial crisis, the two brothers continued their lavish spending, worsening their economic troubles. Friends and close associates confirmed that they had not cut down on expenses, which likely contributed to their dire situation.

Further suspicions arose when police discovered that all CCTV cameras in the house had been switched off on the day of the killings. Investigators are now piecing together the events leading up to the incident and trying to determine whether financial strain pushed the brothers to take such extreme action.

Kolkata police are awaiting the brothers’ recovery for further questioning.
