LPG Refill Timeline: The Government of India has issued a clarification after news reports and social media posts recently put out incorrect revised LPG refill booking timelines. As per multiple outlets, the refill booking timelines were mentioned as 45 days for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) connections, 25 days for non-PMUY single bottle connections, and 35 days for non-PMUY double bottle connections.

Fact-checking the claims, the government has said that the existing refill booking timelines remain unchanged and continue to be:

-25 days in urban areas

-45 days in rural areas, irrespective of connection type

The government has also urged the public to not share such false claims. There is no need for panic or rushed LPG bookings, as sufficient LPG stocks are available across the country. Citizens can continue their regular refill schedule without concern, the government added.

Earlier, the Central government had trashed reports claiming that domestic LPG cylinders will be converted from 14.2 kg to 10 kg, terming the reports "highly speculative".

In a press briefing, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary (Marketing & Oil Refinery) in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, urged the public not to pay heed to such rumours.

She highlighted that the government's focus remains on stabilising the LPG supply and curbing its illegal trade. She said, "Reports of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders being converted to 10 kg LPG cylinders are highly speculative. Don't believe in speculation."

Sharma also updated the nation on the energy infrastructure, saying that the government has successfully activated about 3.5 lakh domestic and commercial Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections over the last three weeks.

"About 3.5 lakh domestic and commercial PNG connections have been given or activated in the last three weeks. The supply of LPG still remains a matter of concern, but there is no dry out at the LPG distributorships. Panic booking of LPG has reduced, and delivery is normal," she said.

She also announced a new policy for commercial LPG allocation, saying that 50 per cent of it will be allotted for the state government and union territories.
