Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project Update: Commuters in Ahmedabad should brace for significant traffic diversions as the City Traffic Police has announced the closure of the Shahibaug three-way underpass for five days, from 8 PM on January 23 through January 28, 2026.
The closure is essential to facilitate critical Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train construction, including the installation of horizontal segments on high-speed rail pillars and piloting work along the Sabarmati-Vatva corridor, The Indian Express reported.
While the underpass was initially scheduled to remain closed in early January, the schedule was postponed, and the notification was withdrawn. With the new schedule now announced, the Ahmedabad City Traffic Police have released a diversion plan to minimise the impact on daily travel.
Shahibaug Underpass Shut For Five Days: Check Alternative Routes
The Ahmedabad City Traffic Police on Monday, January 19, issued an advisory detailing the traffic diversion plan to minimise the impact of the Shahibaug underpass closure.
- Commuters heading towards the airport or Gandhinagar from Delhi Darwaza or Subhash Bridge are advised to take the Riverfront Road near Shilalekh Flats to reach Dafnala.
- Similarly, vehicles coming from the Airport or Gandhinagar can use the Riverfront Road to reach Asarwa, Girdharnagar, Delhi Darwaza, and Kalupur, The Indian Express report added.
- Additionally, vehicles coming from Girdharnagar and Asarwa can bypass the bullet train construction by heading toward Gayatri Mandir and passing through the Army Cantonment and Airport Circle, or by using the Indira Bridge to travel toward Gandhinagar.
