Nagpur Tragedy: In a tragic incident in Nagpur, a couple in their mid-70s were found dead in their locked home in Wadi police limits on Friday. As per the reports, a 77-year-old retired defence employee died after falling on the floor, while his wife died due to starvation amid the scorching heat. The locals stated that the bodies were recovered after they broke the door due to the foul smell from the closed home.
Gangadhar Bhongade and his wife Kaushalya were living in this house for the past four decades and took care of themselves, the locals said. Mohammad Ghouse, the husband of Kaushalya's daughter from her first marriage, witnessed the tragedy when he came to meet the couple. While Gangadhar's body was found on the kitchen floor, the dead body of his wife was found in their bedroom.
As per the officials, the retired defence personnel fell on the floor and died due to the injuries, reported the Times of India. His wife is suspected to have died of starvation and dehydration, as she was completely dependent on her husband for the daily activities. The couple had no children of their own; however, they shared a healthy bond, said the locals.
The locals stated that Gangadhar embraced Kaushalya's four children from her first marriage and took care of her for several years. "The couple loved music, and the radio in their house remained switched on, leading neighbours to believe everything was normal till the grim discovery," a source was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

The officials stated that Gangadhar could have died on May 26 as the door remained closed after that. "Gangadhar's body was in an advanced state of decay, while Kaushalya's body was relatively less decomposed, suggesting she survived her husband by a few days," a senior official was quoted as saying by the TOI.
