CJP Protest: The Delhi Police on Friday held a press conference ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party's protest on October 10 at Delhi's Jantar Mantar protest site against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. While talking to the reporters, Joint CP Nupur Prasad informed that the pressure group has been denied the permission to hold any demonstration in Delhi. Earlier, the top brass of CJP had stated that the demonstration will take place irrespective of what the authorities decide.

CJP Protest: Why Permission Was Denied?

Prasad, while providing details, stated that the permission was denied as the application was submitted in a very short span of time. She asserted that the rule clearly mentions that permission for any such protest has to be taken at least 10 days prior, but the CJP gave ultimatum this week. The senior official further stated that the Abhijeet Dipke-led group did not follow the instructions previous time despite the permission.

"We have received an application from Saurav Das, Co-Convener of Cockroach Janta Party. The application is regarding an intimation for a protest on 10th October at Jantar Mantar. The protest was regarding the accountability of the CEC. This intimation was considered, and it was found that the intimation was given in a very short span of time, whereas as per the prescribed guideline, the intimation has to be received 10 days prior to the protest that is planned," Joint CP Nupur Prasad was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

'Didn't Obey Orders Last Time'

She further reminded that earlier in July, when the CJP was given permission to protest, they did not vacate the site in given time. "Further, it is also important to mention that on an earlier occasion, when the Cockroach Janta Party was given permission to hold a protest there, they did not follow the lawful directions and did not follow their own undertakings given at that point in time," she added.
