CJP Protest: Ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party protest in Delhi on October 10, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke alleged that the BJP government has detained thousands of youngsters across the country. The agitation follows CJP's announcement of a demonstration at Delhi's Jantar Mantar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and seeking resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.

In a post on X, Dipke wrote, "Thousands of youngsters have been detained across the country by the BJP Govt ahead of our October 10 protest.

This intimidation is not going to work, Modi. The youth of this country are no longer scared of you.

I’ll be landing in Delhi tomorrow and will march to Jantar Mantar, come what may."

Reacting to restrictions and videos of police action, Dipke questioned, "Why not simply declare an emergency?"

CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka claimed that at least 10,000 people had been detained nationwide prior to the demonstration. The party also alleged that Rajasthan Police forcibly detained organisational co-in-charge Deepak Baliyan from his Alwar residence on Thursday night, manhandling him despite a fractured leg.

According to Baliyan's family, police initially arrived after the local station house officer summoned him. Baliyan livestreamed the police action on social media, prompting officers to temporarily leave. They allegedly returned later, demanded the video be deleted, and took him into custody when he refused. Ranka stated Baliyan was subsequently released late that night.

On Thursday, Dipke criticised the prohibition on public gatherings in the national capital,

"Jantar Mantar belongs to the people of India; it does not belong to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. If peaceful protests can take place in Mumbai and Bengaluru, why is Amit Shah not permitting them in Delhi?"

A day earlier, Dipke and YouTuber Dhruv Rathee had held a 'Chappal Protest' at Freedom Park in Bengaluru following a People’s Tribunal on the SIR.

Delhi Police Warning Ahead of CJP, INDIA Bloc Protest

Delhi Police warned against the proposed demonstration, stating that Section 163 is in force in the national capital, rendering any gathering illegal.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shrishti Pandey stated that protests are not permitted at Jantar Mantar or elsewhere while restrictions remain, warning of legal action against unauthorized assemblies.

“Section 163 is in effect, meaning protests are not permitted--neither at Jantar Mantar nor anywhere else. Any gathering will be considered illegal, and we would be compelled to take necessary legal action against it,” Pandey said, urging people and their families to prioritize their safety by avoiding the protest.

What Are CJP's Key Demand

Accusing the Election Commission of removing a large number of voters from electoral rolls, Dipke appealed to political parties, civil society groups, and activists to unite to protect voting rights.

The CJP campaign outlines three key demands:

- The immediate resignation of Gyanesh Kumar alongside criminal action against him.

- An immediate halt to the SIR exercise.

- The establishment of an independent and neutral appointment process for Election Commissioners.
