Tamil Nadu politics has reached a highly explosive turning point. While Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay is striving to consolidate his political hold in the state and the country, his staunchest rivals are now preparing to join forces against him.
On Wednesday, an important meeting was held at the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) headquarters with allies like Congress, VCK, IUML and MDMK, in which they named the ruling alliance as 'Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance'.

Conspiracy Being Hatched Against Vijay?
Amid the ongoing political heat in the state, beyond today's TVK meeting and plans, the political developments underway beneath the surface are telling a different story. Now, questions are being raised about whether a larger conspiracy is being hatched to topple Thalapathy's government amid the split in MLAs and tensions within allies.
Backdoor Closeness Between AIADMK And DMK
There is no doubt that Tamil Nadu politics has always revolved around the two poles - AIADMK and DMK - but with the arrival of Vijay's TVK, the contest has become triangular.
In this context, former chief minister and DMK chief, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, recently made a major statement, stating that he is against the TVK and that any other party wishing to join the anti-TVK force is welcome. He even indirectly challenged the DMK to join him against the common political enemy.
Split In MLAs Is Also A Big Reason
It's worth noting that after the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, six AIADMK MLAs defected to Vijay's side. This political blow has left traditional parties in fear. This is a major reason why opposition parties are now considering bridging ideological gaps to topple the Vijay government.
TVK's Shaky Foundation
The foundation of this new alliance led by Vijay is already shaky. There are two reasons for this. First, the Left maintains distance from the TVK. The CPI and CPM have not attended the TVK meetings. The Left parties have made it clear that their support will be from 'outside' and based solely on "issues". They are not willing to fully integrate into the ruling alliance.
Conflict With Congress Over The PM Post
The second issue stemmed from the claim over the candidature for the PM post; reports of a rift with the Congress also pose a significant threat to the Vijay government. This could be explained by the fact that TVK leaders' demand to make Vijay the prime ministerial candidate in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections has infuriated the Congress.
Although the Congress has clearly stated that Rahul Gandhi is its undisputed leader at the national level, this rhetoric has now created a wall of distrust within the ruling coalition, which the opposition is looking to exploit.
MK Stalin's 'Comeback' Plan
On the other side, DMK chief and former chief minister MK Stalin has also launched a scathing attack on Vijay. Stalin recently quipped that Vijay treats the assembly as a film set and delivers dialogues.
Stalin has tried to instil confidence in his party workers that the DMK is not a party that sits back after losing an election, but rather knows how to make a strong comeback. Stalin's aggressive stance at this time clearly indicates that the DMK is secretly employing every possible strategy to destabilise the government or eliminate Vijay's political influence.
Political pundits believe that the way traditional rivals AIADMK and other parties are showing signs of coming together and ideological differences are emerging within the ruling camp, especially with the Congress and the Left parties, is a danger signal for Vijay.
This can be understood as the fact that on the one hand, the opposition's attacks on the administrative front are intensifying, while on the other, the split among MLAs within the assembly and the dissatisfaction of allies have become a significant challenge for the government. All these developments indicate a major upheaval in Tamil Nadu politics in the coming days.
