Gurugram Hit-and-Run Case: A city court in Gurugram on Wednesday sent Kalyan Bainsla, the accused driver who hit a woman biker with his car in Gurugram, to two days of police custody, a day after his arrest from Rajasthan's Dausa.
Bainsla's cousin, Lavneesh, who is also an accused in the hit-and-run case, has also been sent to police custody till September 18. Lavneesh was arrested in Haryana's Palwal on Tuesday after police found him inside the car when the incident took place.
The police had sought a two-day remand to recreate the crime scene, a request the court of Nidhi Beniwal granted. "Allowing the remand application filed by the police today, seeking two days of police custody, the court has awarded two days of police custody, with the next hearing scheduled for September 18," the judge said.
The case grabbed national media headlines after the video of the incident went viral on the internet. In the video, Bainsla, a gym owner, can be seen grazing his car with biker Shivani Chauhan, alias Sia, on the Golf Course Road, after she asked him to stop chasing her.
The contact knocked Chauhan off and sent her skidding down the road in a life-threatening situation.
Woman Biker Says Arrest Not Enough
Shivani Chauhan, alias Sia, said the arrest of accused Kalyan Bainsla was not enough and demanded strict action against him and others who were allegedly present in the car at the time of the incident, as an attempt was made on her life. She said that if Bainsla secures bail in three days, it cannot be considered strict action.
"There were two other people in the car. They should be arrested as well. They must be punished. If they aren't, such incidents will continue to happen," she said.
Shivani also responded to Kalyan Bainsla's cousin's allegations that she is playing the
"victim card" and doing all this to get more views on social media. "His followers are saying that I am playing the victim card and doing all this for the sake of followers. I contested the municipal election from Kalkaji, Delhi, in 2022. I was the youngest candidate. Everyone in Delhi knows me," she said.
"After the incident, I didn't want to reveal my identity, but now it has been revealed. I will stand firm for myself. I don't care what their followers are saying. Their mentality is simply flawed," she said.
Attempt To Murder Charges Added To FIR
After the video of the incident went viral, the Gurugram Police filed a suo motu case at the Sector-56 Police Station. Initially, no formal complaint was filed by the biker. However, she later joined the investigation and recorded her statement.
On her complaint, the police added Section 109 (attempt to murder), Section 78 (physical and digital stalking), and Section 79 (acts against the modesty of a woman) of the BNS to the FIR.
"It can be clearly seen that he deliberately hit (the biker) from the side after an argument. The intent was to kill the victim. The victim has also told the police that the intention was to kill her," Gurugram DCP (East) Sandeep Kumar said as quoted by PTI.
