Domestic LPG customers across the country will have to complete biometric Aadhaar authentication (BAA) to continue booking subsidised cylinder refills from October 1, 2026. The government has made the process mandatory to ensure that subsidised cooking gas reaches genuine domestic households and is not diverted for commercial or industrial use.

For customers who have not yet completed the authentication, there are three ways to complete the process: during LPG cylinder delivery, at the distributor’s showroom or from home through the respective Oil Marketing Company’s (OMC) mobile app. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to complete LPG Aadhaar authentication.

Customers can complete biometric authentication when their LPG cylinder is delivered. The delivery person can use the mobile app of the respective OMC to complete the process.

2. Visit Your LPG Distributor

Customers can also visit their LPG distributor’s showroom and complete the biometric Aadhaar authentication there.

3. Complete BAA From Home

Customers can complete the process themselves through the mobile app of their LPG company.

Can You Buy LPG Without Biometric Aadhaar Authentication?

The government has clarified that customers who do not want to or are unable to undergo biometric authentication will still be able to purchase LPG cylinders. However, they will not receive the subsidy.

Such customers will need to indicate their preference through their OMC’s digital channels, including web portals, mobile apps, WhatsApp chatbots or IVRS. They will then be provided with 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders at market prices, depending on availability with the respective OMC.

As of September 19, 27.43 crore active domestic LPG customers, or 89.9 per cent of the total, had completed the authentication process. Their refill bookings will continue without interruption.

The deadline for completing biometric Aadhaar authentication was originally set for June 30, 2026. It has been extended several times to give customers more time to complete the process.
