Improved LPG Supply And Reduced Backlogs Drive Uniform Refill Booking Gap
In a letter dated September 7, the Ministry stated that the decision follows an improvement in LPG supply positions along with a considerable reduction in refill backlogs compared to when demand-management measures were introduced.
"In view of the present LPG supply position and the considerable reduction in refill backlogs as compared to the situation prevailing at the time of introduction of the demand-management measures, the Ministry has decided to revise the existing refill booking interval and prescribe an inter-refill booking gap of 25 days uniformly for all Domestic LPG consumers, including those in rural areas," the letter said.
The restrictions were introduced during the outbreak of conflict in West Asia in February 2026, which placed severe pressure on global supply chains. To manage demand amid supply pressure, the Ministry had prescribed a booking interval of 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas. With the LPG supply position now easing, the Ministry has decided to eliminate the differentiated timeline and revert to a uniform 25-day booking gap for all domestic consumers, regardless of location.
Union Minister Shares Update
Confirming the development, Union Minister of State for Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Tourism Suresh Gopi on Monday said that oil marketing companies have been instructed to implement the revised 25-day interval immediately.

In a Facebook post, Gopi highlighted that the earlier split between urban and rural booking windows was a temporary demand-management measure, necessitated by LPG supply pressures arising from the West Asia conflict.
