The criteria for getting subsidy benefits on LPG cylinders will be changed as the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has announced a major policy shift starting October 1, 2026. According to the ministry, domestic LPG consumers must complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) to continue receiving gas refills at subsidised rates.
As of September 19, approximately 89.9 per cent of active consumers have already completed the verification process.
Subsidy To Be Continued
Eligible consumers will continue getting a subsidy on domestic LPG. For September 2026, the estimated subsidy on a standard 14.2-kg cylinder stands at approximately Rs 210, down from Rs 721 in June. To offset losses, the government provided Rs 22,000 crore in compensation to oil marketing companies in FY23, with an additional allocation of Rs 30,000 crore planned across FY26 and FY27.
Who Will Be Impacted
If a consumer does not complete BAA will no longer receive financial subsidies and must refill at market prices, subject to local availability. However, BBA unauthentication will not result in a disconnection or refusal of LPG cylinder supply.

The primary objective behind the development is to ensure that subsidised benefits reach eligible families directly, while curbing the commercial and industrial misuse of domestic LPG cylinders.
How to Authenticate BAA
Consumers can complete their biometric verification either at the time of cylinder delivery, in person at the local distributor's showroom, or via official mobile applications: IndianOil ONE (Indane), HelloBPCL (Bharatgas), or HP PAY (HP Gas).
Customers opting out of authentication must register their preference using their respective oil marketing company's digital portal.
