A disturbing incident has come to light in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman and her alleged lover have been arrested for their suspected involvement in an attempt to murder her husband. The victim, identified as 35-year-old Shashank Kanthariya, sustained multiple stab wounds and is currently receiving treatment at hospital. His young daughter, who was sleeping beside him during the attack, escaped unharmed.

The incident occurred on October 23 at Jagriti Resident Welfare Association Society in Vasundhara Sector 1, within the jurisdiction of the Indirapuram police station.

According to NDTV report, the police suspect that Kanthariya’s wife, Priya, 32, conspired with her alleged partner, Pratap Singh, 30, a gym trainer, to carry out the attack. Both accused have been arrested and remanded to judicial Custody.

Husband Attacked While Sleeping

Kanthariya, who reportedly works as a senior accountant with the Delhi government, was asleep at his residence alongside his young daughter when Singh allegedly entered the house through an unlocked door.

He is suspected of carrying two knives and stabbing Kanthariya multiple times while he was asleep. The victim woke up during the assault and raised an alarm. His daughter also woke up and began crying, alerting the Neighbours.

Neighbours rushed to the house, forcing the alleged attacker to flee. Kanthariya was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where he remains under intensive medical care.

Husband Learnt About Alleged Affair in September

According to TOI, Singh began working at the gym Priya regularly visited in Vasundhara in January 2026. He became her trainer, and the two allegedly developed a romantic relationship.

The alleged affair reportedly came to Kanthariya’s attention in September. He confronted his wife and asked her to end the relationship. He also reportedly urged her to change gyms or stop visiting the fitness club where Singh worked.

Police suspect that tensions escalated further when Kanthariya began considering moving out of the family’s Vasundhara residence and searching for a house in Delhi. Priya allegedly opposed the move, while her husband reportedly intended to finalise a property around Sunday.

During questioning, Singh allegedly told police that he and Priya planned to marry. Police are investigating whether their alleged relationship and the dispute over Kanthariya’s plans to relocate provided the motive for the attack.

How the Alleged Plan Was Carried Out

According to the police investigation, Priya allegedly left the main door unlocked while following her usual gym routine, allowing Singh to enter the house while her husband and daughter were asleep.

Singh allegedly entered the bedroom with two knives and attacked Kanthariya. However, the victim’s cries and his daughter’s distress alerted neighbours, who rushed to help as the suspect attempted to escape.

Singh was reportedly spotted by a society resident, identified as MT Joshi, who noticed blood on his hands and tried to apprehend him. Singh allegedly pushed Joshi aside and continued running towards the society’s exit.

Security guards followed him on a motorcycle, eventually catching him and handing him over to the police. Two knives were reportedly recovered from his possession.

Meanwhile, residents arranged for Kanthariya to be taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Both Accused Remanded To Judicial Custody

Priya and Singh were arrested on Tuesday and later produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody. Police are investigating the alleged conspiracy, the sequence of events surrounding the attack and the roles of both accused.

According to the report, Kanthariya had discovered the alleged relationship and was planning to relocate after Diwali. Police suspect that the couple may have decided to kill him to prevent the move, although the allegations remain subject to the ongoing investigation and judicial proceedings.

Kanthariya continues to receive treatment in the ICU, while his daughter is safe and did not sustain any injuries.
