Mumbai: Eight long-distance trains bound for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) are being short-terminated due to a 75-day traffic and power block that began on October 1 and will continue until December 15. The project, executed by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), is required to facilitate heavy structural engineering, foundation, and modernisation work to revamp the heritage terminus.

Reconstruction Of Key Platforms
The current phase focuses on upgrading platform numbers 14 and 15, as well as stabling line 15.
"As part of the redevelopment project, foundation laying and other essential construction works will be carried out on Platform Nos. 14 & 15 and Stabling Line 15 during the block period," Central Railway said in a statement.
"Train traffic on Platform Nos. 14 & 15 will remain suspended until completion of the work, after which the platforms will be handed over by RLDA back to the Railways for train operations," it added.
8 Trains Short-Terminated
To facilitate the work, eight long-distance trains are being short-terminated. Seven trains will short-terminate at Dadar, while one train will short-terminate at Thane.

Services Terminating at Thane:
- 12134 Mangaluru-CSMT Express
Central Railway has advised passengers to check the timetable and plan their journeys accordingly.
CSMT Redevelopment Project
The redevelopment project, approved by the Union Cabinet for Rs 2,450 crore, aims to upgrade CSMT into India's most modern railway station. The project was earlier scheduled for completion in March this year, but the deadline has now been extended to October 2028.

"Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) is a heritage station. It has a place in the UNESCO World Heritage. It is being designed in a way that would preserve the heritage and the station becomes equipped with modern facilities. We have prepared this design with the help of the world's best designers and locals with a good understanding," Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
