The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Thursday announced that its FASTag portability service, 'OneTag', is now available on the Rajmargyatra app. Designed to benefit over 130 million users, it allows vehicle owners to switch their issuing bank without removing or replacing the physical sticker on their windshield.

How To Switch Your FASTag Bank Through Rajmargyatra App

  • Check Eligibility: Log in to the Rajmargyatra app, enter the vehicle registration number, and verify eligibility for porting.
  • Verify Request: Receive and enter a six-digit Mobile Verification Code (MVC) sent by the current issuing bank.
  • Complete Setup: Select a new issuing bank, complete the required KYC, and set up the new wallet.
  • Retain Physical Tag: The FASTag ID linked to the vehicle remains unchanged, eliminating the need to replace the sticker affixed to the vehicle.

Key Terms And Features

  • Balance Refund: Upon successful porting, the previous issuing bank closes the old wallet and refunds any remaining balance after necessary adjustments.
  • Cooling Period: To ensure system stability, an interoperable FASTag can only be ported again after a mandatory six-month cooling period.
  • Added App Services: Besides portability, the Rajmargyatra app allows purchasing FASTag Annual and Local Passes and provides direct access to the 1033 emergency helpline.

NHAI highlighted that 'OneTag' will improve FASTag lifecycle management by eliminating the need for repeated tag production, significantly cutting dispatch and reissuance costs. The initiative also streamlines the bank-switching process, giving users greater flexibility in choosing banks and service providers.
